Partnership between RoboValley, the Municipality of Delft and HSD

On 15 June, a collaboration between RoboValley and the municipality of Delft with HSD has been made official during the Robo Café ‘Trends in Robotics within the field of Security’, which was organised by both RoboValley as HSD. Arthur de Crook, Managing Director of RoboValley and deputy mayor of the municipality of Delft, Ferrie Förster, have confirmed this by officially signing the collaboration contract with HSD.

HSD sees many opportunities in the cross overs between both the security sector and the robotica sector. On top of that, the collaboration between the municipality of Delft and HSD is important for the cities of The Hague and Delft, but also for the region. This collaboration does not only contribute to the innovations in the region of both cities but also to the development of its economy and new jobs. Eventually, the region can take the advantage on international level.

RoboValley

The added value of the cooperation with RoboValley lies in the opportunities of sharing knowledge and networks to encourage the innovations in the field of ‘unmanned’ and security.Both organisations share many similarities in the way they operate as a national cluster. The clusters are looking for connections between companies, knowledge institutions and governments in order to encourage innovation. The themes in common are digitisation, automatisation/robotics, ‘unmanned’ and educating talent. Moreover, both clusters have a Campus or a Valley where innovative organisations can take resident and meet other organisations active in their domain.

Arthur de Crook: “The intention of this collaboration is to share knowledge in specific themes and to utilise each others networks. By bundling the powers, we can stimulate more innovations in these fields. The organisation of this Robo Café and the collaboration at the TUS Expo during the International Robotics Week are examples of how we can strengthen each other”.

Municipality of Delft

Deputy mayor of the municipality of Delft, Ferrie Förster: ‘’The collaboration between the municipality of Delft and HSD is important for both Delft and for the entire region. Delft, as high tech capital of The Netherlands, has the ambition to double the knowledge economy by 2030 and wishes to do this with close cooperation with organisations, such as HSD. This contributes to the innovation power, security and will create extra jobs in The Netherlands and in specific the region of Delft and The Hague”.

Richard Franken: “We are convinced that this collaboration with RoboValley will bring both cluster organisations many advantages. The innovations in digitisation, robotics and unmanned develop incredibly fast, which creates many economic opportunities for companies and benefits for the end users. It is important that we assure that these developments are in line with the development of digital security in these domains. ‘Security by design’ is an important condition. Security must be included in the design phase. Bringing together the networks and partners of both clusters on these theme's will give added value to our collaboration".

Robo Café

During the RoboCafé 'Robocop, past or future?: Trends in robotics within the field of security', attendees were informed about the industrial applications of robots for security and how this will influence the security domain. Edwin Lustig of Robot Security Systems, partner of HSD, presented its robot SAM which is used for security applications.
