Bridging the Cybersecurity Talent Gap: HSD’s New Toolset Connects Cybersecurity Talent with Industry Needs
Finding the right talent, or the right career opportunity, remains a significant challenge in today’s labour market. Organisations often struggle to find professionals with the specific skills and expertise they require, while individuals may not always recognise how their existing capabilities align with available roles. To address this challenge, Security Delta (HSD) has developed a new toolset designed to create a better connection between organisations and talent.
Rather than focusing solely on job titles and CVs, the toolset takes a competence-based approach by looking at the actual tasks, skills, and capabilities required for a role. By identifying the competences needed for a specific position and matching these with the skills individuals already possess, the toolset supports organisations and professionals in making more informed and effective decisions. This approach helps create better matches between workforce needs and available talent, while also providing insight into potential competence gaps.
The HSD toolset consists of two complementary tools:
Tool 1: Mapping individual competences
The first tool identifies and maps an individual’s IT and cybersecurity competences. This provides insight into the skills and expertise a person already has, creating a clear overview of their professional capabilities.
Tool 2: Matching organisational needs with available talent
The second tool focuses on the competences required to achieve a specific organisational goal. These requirements are then matched with the talent identified through the first tool, highlighting the best possible fit and revealing any potential competence gaps that may need to be addressed.
Together, these tools support organisations in tackling a wide range of workforce challenges. They can help identify specific talent requirements, build effective project teams and determine suitable personnel development options by matching the needed skill with present skill within an employers team with education or training opportunities for specific roles.
Building a future-proof cybersecurity workforce through skills-based matching
By shifting the focus from traditional job profiles towards skills and competences, HSD aims to contribute to a more flexible, future-proof cybersecurity workforce, helping organisations find the right expertise while enabling professionals to discover new opportunities that match their capabilities.
