On 23 June, the new CEO of Thales, Otto de Bont, CTO Koen ten Hove, and Gerard Hoekstra from the Thales Cyber team visited Security Delta (HSD) for a comprehensive working visit focused on getting to know the Dutch Security cluster and exploring potential collaboration in the field of security. Joris den Bruinen, General Director and Saskia Noordewier, Manager Innovation Team, welcomed the Thales delegation. They presented HSD’s mission, history and strategic priorities, with particular focus on collaboration and ecosystem development. They also addressed developments, such as the collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and development of the Cyber Campus/House of Cyber.

Campus Tour and Partner Showcase

Following this conversation, the delegation was guided throught the HSD Campus where they spoke with a number of cybersecurity businesses that are actively contributing to a more secure world and the cyber resilience of organisations.

Representatives from the following organisations pitched their work and expertise:

  • Jan Willem Veldhuis, Co-Founder of AKASEC, shared insights into the company’s distinctive offensive ‘living-off-the-land’ approach and into the development of custom offensive and defensive tooling for organisations operating both inside and outside the Netherlands. He also discussed AKASEC’s contribution to the public-private ‘cyberwarroom’ during the recent NATO Summit in The Hague.
  • Earth Grob, Co-Founder Merlon Security, highlighted the organisation's approach to strengthening digital resilience.

Digital Forensics Education and Innovation

The visit concluded with a session at the Digital Forensics Lab, where Jos Griffioen (Lecturer & Researcher at Leiden University of Applied Sciences), demonstrated how students are trained in digital forensics in close collaboration with the Netherlands Forensic Institute. The lab illustrates how education, research and practice are combined to develop future talent in cybersecurity.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge and strengthen connections between HSD and Thales. It underlined the importance of continued collaboration in building a resilient cybersecurity ecosystem.
