The CyberPeace Institute, based in The Hague, and Security Delta (HSD) have signed a partnership agreement this month to collaborate on enhancing cyber resilience for NGOs. Through this reciprocal partnership, both organisations will leverage each other’s strengths and expertise, expanding their reach and impact.

The CyberPeace Institute is committed to protecting the most vulnerable in cyberspace. Their mission holds all threat actors accountable and to promote peace in cyberspace by exposing the human harm caused by cyberattacks and disinformation. As advocates against the misuse of artificial intelligence to threaten international peace and security, the Institute promotes the responsible development and use of AI through training and impactful collaborations.

Joris den Bruinen, Director of HSD, states: “With this new reciprocal alliance, we, along with our business partners, can take concrete steps to improve cyber resilience for the most vulnerable in the Netherlands, particularly NGOs. These organizations are more essential than ever, and the CyberPeace Institute is a valuable example of why The Hague is the global hub for justice, peace, and security. We look forward to collaborating on this critical issue to secure our digitising society.”

This partnership with HSD is a concrete step toward strengthening cyber resilience where it’s needed most — among NGOs serving vulnerable communities,” shares Stéphane Duguin, CEO of the CyberPeace Institute. “With our office based in The Hague, we’ve been working closely with city authorities and local partners to protect the hundreds of NGOs that operate here. But there are thousands more across the Netherlands that form the fabric of social life — and they too need stronger protection in the face of growing cyber threats. By combining our expertise with HSD, we can accelerate the sharing of knowledge and resources to ensure these vital organisations can continue their work safely and securely.

As corporate social responsibility (CSR) becomes an increasingly important focus for companies, the CyberPeace Institute has observed that many NGOs struggle to attract cybersecurity talent, resulting in long-term vulnerabilities. To address this issue, the CyberPeace Institute launched the CyberPeace Builders platform in 2022, bringing together these two communities. The platform offers a unique matchmaking opportunity for social impact. To date, over 1300 cybersecurity professionals have volunteered, directly helping over 500 NGOs worldwide to protect their networks, operations and sensitive data.

Through the platform corporate professionals can volunteer their technical expertise. By doing so, they not only upskill themselves but also teach fellow volunteers. NGOs gain access to previously out-of-reach resources: information, tools, and reputable guidance. For vulnerable communities, the beneficiaries of these NGOs, this means that their personal data is secure. It also ensures that critical services provided by NGOs remain available, and that funds for services or staff are protected.
