A valuable publication from the European CADMUS Project highlights the growing gap between the demand for cybersecurity skills and the current educational offering.

Europe is entering a phase in which digital dependence is increasing rapidly, while cyber threats are becoming more complex and unpredictable. As a result, organisations are facing ever stricter requirements for their digital resilience, which calls for continued investment in cybersecurity skills. The European project ‘CADMUS’, which focuses on mapping cybersecurity skills across Europe, shows that the current supply of education and training does not sufficiently align with the needs of the labour market. Both in the Netherlands and across other European countries, there is a clear gap between the demand for and supply of cybersecurity competencies.

The research demonstrates that organisations have a strong need for skills in risk management, security consulting, information security management, system administration and analytical capabilities, while education systems often do not yet adequately respond to this demand. The study further specifies this skills gap and provides concrete guidance to better align curricula and professional development pathways with the realities of today’s digital threats.
