Security Hubs HSD and the State of Maryland Sign MOU on Science and Technology
The Hague Security Delta and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development signed a memorandum of understanding today to work together to create a more secure world and foster economic development through science and technology. The MOU connects Maryland, the United States’ epicenter of research and innovation in cyber security, with the Hague Security Delta, the largest security cluster in Europe.
Under the agreement, signed by Department of Business & Economic Development Secretary Dominick Murray, and Ida Haisma, Director of the Hague Security Delta, the Netherlands and the State of Maryland will:
- Promote trade, investment and partnering between the industry clusters;
- Promote research and development opportunities to facilitate joint cooperation for enterprises and research centers between the two regions;
- Promote mutual exchanges between business leaders, government officials, academics, students and the public; and
- Join the efforts to identify opportunities for commercialization of high value-added technologies; help match potential investors and support the sales and marketing of developed products in the two regions.
Director Haisma said, “This cooperation between two major security hubs across the Atlantic will allow enterprises and research institutions to benefit from each other’s networks and provide access to markets and resources. For the Netherlands’ security sector, the cooperation presents the opportunity to create a knowledge platform with the United States, to learn from the Maryland experience in security ecosystem development, and to increase its foothold in the United States.”
“As a state, as a nation and as a global community, we face unparalleled security challenges,” said Secretary Murray. “Partnerships like this are critical to sharing information, developing new technologies to address cyber challenges, and, most importantly, to maintaining the safety and security of our world. We are very pleased to be working so closely with the Hague Security Delta.”
One of the first joint activities of the MOU will be active participation of CyberMaryland’s business and research community in the Global Cyber Space Conference of April 2015 in the Hague.
Other areas of specific interest for cyber security activities include workforce development, standards setting and shared research and test bedding for critical infrastructures. The MOU, which will last for three years, was signed at the CyberMaryland 2014 Conference.
