On the 12th of November 2015, Lowlands Solutions Netherlands (LSN) in conjunction with Trinity, will present a one-day conference on the World after Snowden and the Impact on International Law and Mass Surveillance.

The 20th of May 2013, Edward Snowden flew to Hong Kong with an estimated total of 1.7 million documents from the NSA, the Defense Ministry and inter-agency communication documents. What happened next would shake up the world’s intelligence community and change the way we look at government intelligence organizations today. The world’s most powerful signals intelligence agencies, the NSA, GCHQ and their allies, who were used to ´operating in the dark´, were now in the spotlight and focus of attention of people worldwide. “My name is Ed Snowden, I’m 29 years old, I worked for Booz Allen Hamilton as an infrastructure analyst for NSA in Hawaii” was the first of many revelations that would gradually be released to the world.

The documents detailed the scope of global mass surveillance by the ´five-eye´ intelligence community through programs such as PRISM, and the British equivalent TEMPORA. The sheer scope of the surveillance, the worldwide access, the listening stations operating out of diplomatic missions, the systematic monitoring of high-level officials and politicians, would result in privacy panic and public outrage.

Two years after it first made headlines, the consequences of these revelations and their impact on international law and mass surveillance are something we can begin to analyze and understand today.

This one-day program will provide the attendee with four speakers who will offer you their analysis and expertise on the impact on international law and mass surveillance. This will hopefully leave you with four different perspectives, from government, private and academic sectors resulting in a comprehensive overview and personal understanding of the most current pressing issues surrounding the post-Snowden world.
