NATO Integrated Cyber Defence Centre (NICC) Visits HSD Campus for Inspiring Exchange on Cybersecurity, Defence Innovation and Talent
On 7 May, Security Delta (HSD) welcomed representatives of the NATO Integrated Cyber Defence Centre (NICC) to the HSD Campus in The Hague for an inspiring exchange on cybersecurity, defence innovation and talent development. The NATO Integrated Cyber Defence Centre (NICC) is a newly established specialised unit at SHAPE in Belgium, created to enhance NATO’s collective cyber defence capabilities, situational awareness, and network protection in response to the growing complexity of cyber threats.
During the session, discussions focused on the increasing complexity of hybrid and cyber threats and their impact on the security and resilience of NATO Allies. It was emphasised that effectively addressing these challenges requires strong public-private collaboration between governments, industry, and knowledge institutions.
The conversation also highlighted the importance of innovation adoption within defence environments, stressing that developing new technologies alone is not enough, successful implementation and operational integration are equally critical. In addition, participants addressed the growing cybersecurity talent shortage, developing of cybersecurity talent and aligning future cybersecurity competences with trainings offerings and educational programmes and the importance of international cooperation in strengthening knowledge-sharing, expertise, and capacity-building efforts.
Finally, the session explored how NICC and HSD can play a facilitating role in structuring collaboration between government, industry, and academia, helping to translate innovative ideas into practical implementation and operational impact.
About the NATO Integrated Cyber Defence Centre (NICC)
The NATO Integrated Cyber Defence Centre (NICC) is intended to strengthen NATO’s overall cyber defence and operational resilience by improving coordination and interoperability across the Alliance. Rather than creating a completely new organisation, NICC acts as a coordinating structure that brings together NATO cyber defence entities, Allied nations, trusted industry partners, and academia to enhance NATO’s collective deterrence and defence in cyberspace.
Looking Ahead
It was great to see strong alignment on the value of ecosystem-driven collaboration and the role innovation hubs can play in connecting operational challenges to practical solutions. We look forward to exploring further collaboration opportunities together with NICC and the broader NATO ecosystem.
