Alert Online & Raising Cyber Security Awareness

This year's Alert Online campaign was launched October 3rd at HSD founding partner KPN's office in The Hague by State Secretary for Security and Justice Klaas Dijkhoff. With over 190 partners and with a focus on cyber skills, this campaign aims to share knowledge and experience about cyber security throughout the whole country. Besides a complete programme, the campaign also offers the opportunity to test your cyberskills online. October is the European Cyber Security Month, a month in which organisations and institutions raise awareness and create advocacy campaigns on national and European levels.

The Underestimation of Cybersecurity

The majority of Dutch citizens (69%) is not concerned about digital security. They underestimate the potential of cyber attacks and hacks like ransomware, phising and malicious advertisements. The Netherlands has a very high percentage of citizens who have online access, most of them are not aware that updates and back-ups of systems are crucial in the fight against ransomware and cyber crimes.  

About Alert Online

Alert Online is a yearly awareness campaign. This year the campaign runs from 3-14 October. The Alert Online campaign is an initiative of the goverment, businesses as well as knowledge institutions. The campaign is organised by ECP (platform voor de Informatiesamenleving / platform for information society) and commissioned by the Dutch National Coordinator of Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV). HSD & Partners 

HSD and partners will organise a variety of activities during the Alert Online campaign. Firstly, HSD will participate in a panel during the Holland Strikes Back event on October 4th. On October 13th HSD organises, in cooperation with TNO, Onsight & Insite Security, an Alert Online Symposium with a Masterclass Awareness Security Awareness. Lastly: on October 14th is part of the Seaside Matchmaking event where those interested will be informed about the procedure of the tender SBIR Cybersecurity, during this occasion HSD will also introduce its new website Security Talent.
