Computer attacks endanger new innovative developments in the automotive sector, including autonomous driving, the connected car, smart transportation and fleet management. Vehicle data can, without detection, be manipulated and distributed. A recent incident with Jeep showed that hackers are capable of taking unauthorised remote control over cars. In this case, security could become a disabler of innovation. However, by using a security-by-design approach, integrating security from the outside of the automotive innovation process, could lead to great opportunities. In this interactive café we will discuss all the new challenges and opportunities of the rapidly changing –disruptive- Smart Mobility world!

This Café will be the kick-off for the cooperation between the AutomotiveNL and HSD networks. We will be exploring new opportunities for cross-overs between these two sectors. AutomotiveNL seeks to boost the Dutch automotive industry through national and international promotion and representation at OEMs and automotive suppliers, umbrella and cluster organisations, as well as the public sector. AutomotiveNL represents the interests of the Dutch automotive industry. Smart Mobility and Green Mobility are the main focus areas. AutomotiveNL focuses on innovation, education and knowledge transfer, validation, manufacturing and internationalisation.

The HSD Café is set up as follows:

From 16:00 until 16:45, the following experts will share their insights on the matter through brief presentations:

  • Bram Hendrix (Smart Mobility AutomotiveNL) will provide an overview of the current state of smart mobility.

  • Leo Bingen (Director stichting SIMS) will provide an expert analysis on data flows for new developments in smart mobility solutions and the vulnerabilities related to these data flows.

  • Willem de Boer (HSD partnerTechnolution) provides an expert view from the shockwave traffic jam project, which lets people receive traffic reports before they can see the traffic situation through their windscreen. They can anticipate faster and thus help to prevent the “shock waves” that can cause shockwave traffic jams.

At 16:45, the brief presentations will be followed by an interactive discussion, in which the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore new opportunities for cross-overs between the security and automotive sector.

From 17:15 onwards, the bar is open for drinks and there will be ample opportunity to network.

About the HSD Café

The HSD Cafés are organised for HSD partners on every first and third Thursday of each month (except on public holidays). From cyber to critical infrastructure, 20 sessions will be organised around security topics relevant for companies, the government, and knowledge organisations. In the first hour of each HSD Café, experts will briefly present a security topic, dilemma, or innovation, followed by an informal discussion. The second part of the HSD Café consists of drinks and a possibility to network.  The HSD Cafés provide an excellent opportunity to meet (potential) business partners, bring along your contacts, expand your knowledge, and shape the debate on key security issues of the future. Tell us what you think. Let your voice count, expand your network, and join the debate!
