Cybersecurity Key Topic during Dutch Power Event
On 10 March 2026, the energy sector came together for 'Digital Secure Energy: From Source to Socket', an event organised by Dutch Power and dedicated to strengthening the digital resilience of the whole energy chain. The event brought together grid operators, cybersecurity experts, policymakers, and industry partners and highlighted a shared urgency: Without structural attention to cybersecurity and interoperability, there is a risk of cyber attacks, data manipulation and disruptions with potentially major societal consequences. In order not to delay the energy transition, we must strengthen the digital resilience of the entire chain.
The programme focused on five key pillars of an integrated approach: awareness, threat detection, designing resilient systems to minimise impact, ensuring swift and coordinated responses, and collaborative innovation to elevate cybersecurity across the sector. Frank Thiele moderated the event.
We were honoured that Anne Visser, HSD programme manager cybersecurity and -resilience, was given the opportunity to speak on behalf of the Innovation Coalition Cybersecure Energy Transition. She emphasised that cybersecurity in the energy sector requires both collective and individual responsibility and explained that secure-by-design principles are key to a resilient energy system: every product and system should be assessed and protected throughout its lifecycle to reduce cyberattacks, minimise disruptions, and ensure reliable data exchange across the energy chain. In addition, she highlighted the importance of integrating security from the very beginning while coordinating innovation across the sector.
Other speakers from the cybersecurity sector were Willem Westerhof, hacker, manager and public speaker at Bureau Veritas Cybersecurity and Chris van ’t Hof, managing director and co-founder of the Dutch Institute for Vulnerability Disclosure (DIVD). A live demo hack was given by Chris van den Hooven en Hendrik Schimmelpenninck van der Oije van Fox-IT.
