Our society is increasingly disrupted by problems such as online disinformation, data breaches, identity fraud and distrust towards the government. While information technology should increase trust, it may actually cause more disruptions. Improving digital identities can help solve these problems.

Digital identities are essential for individuals, organisations and objects to enable secure and reliable interactions and transactions in our complex digital world. Reliable information is crucial in all sectors, and digital processes often do yet not work optimally due to lack of coordination.

To that end NWO has launched the call 'Digital Identities: Trust in the Digital World 2024' to strengthen trust in our digital society by combatting misinformation, data leaks, and identity theft/fraud. This programme emphasises the importance of trust in digital identities, with the aim of creating a safe and secure digital environment for all.

This mission is supported by the Knowledge and Innovation Covenant (KIC) 2024-2027, emphasising the crucial role of digital identities as a fundament for trust in the digital world. The programme's goal is to create a safe and dependable digital society for all its participants, including humans, organisations and objects.

The call is closing on 8 April 2025, and is currently being prepared. Visit the NWO website for more information.
