Leiden University, TU Delft and Erasmus University join forces in the field of cyber security. Together they want to train experts and come up with initiatives to keep them in the region, because these experts are wanted internationally. To this end, the three universities seek contact with companies, institutions and governments.

Leiden University already offers a two-year master's degree in cyber security at Campus The Hague. Every year, 24 students join the master to learn how to detect and prevent online threats. They also learn to advise companies and institutions on how to protect their systems against ransomware, espionage or sabotage.

Cyber security is a complex and versatile field of work. Technology, human behavior, legislation, finance and ethics are brought together. Each university has its own points of interest. The Leiden researchers are interested, for example, in the question "how technology regulates human behavior and what is desirable and what is not". TU Delft is looking more at the design of computer systems and the security of privacy-sensitive data. Erasmus University Rotterdam investigates how online crimes are committed and how criminal law can get a grip on crime in cyberspace.

This autumn is all about getting to know each other and sharing knowledge. Dean Wim van den Doel, who leads the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus partnership, takes the lead. The three cyber courses are thinking about creating new teaching and research programmes and about cooperation with companies and organisations in the region.
