With the municipal elections approaching, key stakeholders from The Hague’s innovation and business ecosystem are organising a high-level debate focused on the future of the city’s economy. SMEs will take centre stage in discussions with the city’s lead political candidates. The debate aims to address one central question: How do we make the innovative economy a structural part of the city, so that it contributes to employment, entrepreneurship and liveable neighbourhoods in The Hague?

As the city faces major spatial and economic challenges, this event provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to directly engage with policymakers. The focus will be on removing barriers that hinder business growth and fostering stronger collaboration between government, industry and knowledge institutions.

From ambition to action

During the debate, participants will explore concrete solutions to strengthen SME growth and innovation in The Hague. Entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to share what is needed to future-proof their businesses and ensure that innovation becomes a lasting pillar of the urban economy. We will also look at how to further strengthen the proposition and DNA of The Hague as the international city of Peace, Justice and Security, and how this unique positioning can reinforce economic growth and innovation.

Three key themes will guide the discussion:

  • Room for growth: How can the city safeguard sufficient space for manufacturing, the broader SME sector and innovative companies, alongside the significant housing development challenge, while maintaining liveable urban areas?
  • Talent for tomorrow: How can the education system respond more quickly and effectively to changing labour market demands?
  • Space for innovation: How can the municipality reduce regulatory barriers and more frequently act as a launching customer for innovative solutions developed in The Hague?

Collaboration

The debate is organised by Unknown Campus – Titaan, Security Delta (HSD), The Hague Tech, Campus@Sea and WE-IT, in collaboration with MKB Den Haag and Economic Board The Hague. Together, these organisations advocate for a city government that not only recognises the value of entrepreneurship but actively facilitates it.

By bringing together business leaders, innovators and political representatives, the event aims to ensure that the innovative economy becomes a permanent and structural component of The Hague’s development, strengthening employment, entrepreneurship and the quality of life across the city.
