Today, 5 October 2026, Women4Cyber The Netherlands brings together academics, researchers and cybersecurity professionals for the Cybersecurity + Academia Day: Foundations & Research Day at the HSD Campus, as part of Cybersecurity Week in The Hague.

The event offers participants an opportunity to explore the many different pathways into cybersecurity, whether they are considering a career switch, a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD, or are just starting their journey in the field. At the same time, the programme provides a platform for researchers and professionals to exchange knowledge on current and emerging cybersecurity developments.

Exploring Current and Emerging Cybersecurity Topics

Throughout the day, speakers share their expertise and research across a range of cybersecurity topics. Dr. Salijona Dyrmishi from Swift discusses the secure deployment of AI systems, while Prof. dr. Els De Busser from the University of Amsterdam shares her expertise in information law. Prof. dr. ir. Marcela Tuler de Oliveira from Delft University of Technology also contributes insights from her research.

Dr. Ini Kong from TU Delft, an alumna of the Cyber Security Summer School, presents “A Stage-Based Growth Approach to PQC Transition”, focusing on the transition to post-quantum cryptography. Nathan Schiele, PhD candidate and lecturer at Leiden University, also contributes to the programme. His research focuses on areas including threat modelling and security risk analysis.

The research sessions conclude with Emanuele Mezzi, PhD candidate in AI Security at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and also an alumnus of the Cyber Security Summer School. In his session, “How Reliable Are LLMs in Cyber Threat Intelligence?”, he explores the reliability of Large Language Models (LLMs) in Cyber Threat Intelligence and the opportunities and challenges associated with their use in this field.

Connecting Cybersecurity Research and Practice

Alongside the presentations, the sessions create space for questions, discussion and knowledge exchange. Participants have the opportunity to exchange perspectives with academics, researchers and cybersecurity professionals and learn more about different educational and career pathways within the field.

By bringing together different areas of research and expertise, the Cybersecurity + Academia Day highlights the value of connecting academic knowledge with developments in cybersecurity practice.
