On Friday 29 November 2019, the final event of the innovation project ‘Jong talent aan het woord’ took place in the auditorium of the Ministry of Justice and Security. Students of the The Hague University of Applied Sciences and the Avans University of Applied Sciences pitched ten solutions to three participating organisations: the Dutch Police, Instituut Fysieke Veiligheid (IFV) and the Custodial Institutions Agency (DJI).

The innovation project ‘Jong talent aan het woord’ was a pilot in which the two universities and the Ministry of Justice and Security worked together. 59 Students were challenged to come up with innovative solutions to issues of Ministry of Justice and Security organisations, within 90 days.

Hans Versnel, innovation manager at Instituut Fysieke Veiligheid: “It is fantastic to see how these students look at our issues with a fresh view. Because they have less knowledge about our daily practice, they can think out of the box. As a result, they come up with creative ideas that we have not yet come up with ourselves.”

The students have, among other things, come up with a new way of tracking for solving cold cases of the police and a technical system as replacement of the drug dog. This collaboration has brought a lot of new knowledge and insights to the students as well as to the Police, IFV and DJI.
