As of 1 January 2025, Arie Jan de Waard will become the new chairman of the Supervisory Board of the HSD Foundation. He will succeed Wim Kuijken, who in line with the Good Governance Code, will bestow his responsibility after 8 years. Together with Marjolein Jansen and Jaap Wielaart, Arie Jan de Waard will supervise and support the goals, the general operational management and the director of HSD Foundation.

Arie Jan de Waard brings with him valuable knowledge and experience. He has a long career as a naval officer in the Dutch armed forces. In his last position as admiral, he headed the Command for Materiel and IT (COMMIT). In this job he stood up to introduce innovations to the Ministry of Defense faster, through intensive cooperation with research institutes, industry and startups. He also gained extensive knowledge in the digital and security domain in his role at COMMIT and as Chief Information Officer of the Dutch Ministry of Defense. After concluding his successful career in October 2023, de Waard dedicates himself socially through various supervisory positions. For example, as a supervisory board member of the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam and chairman of the board of SAIL Amsterdam.

Arie Jan de Waard is looking forward to his new role: "It is impossible to imagine our society without digitalisation. Indeed, it offers enormous opportunities for a prosperous, innovative and sustainable future. At the same time, digitisation also brings risks, which we must not underestimate. That is why it is essential to be digitally resilient. HSD plays a crucial role as a platform to tackle these challenges together. It is with great enthusiasm that I set to work with my fellow supervisors to support the HSD team in carrying out their important work".

With the appointment of de Waard the foundation safeguards a balanced representation regarding their knowledge, experience and backgrounds in government, knowledge institutions and the private sector.

The supervisory board, director and employees of Security Delta (HSD) are looking forward to the collaboration with De Waard and want to thank Wim Kuijken for his good governance the last 8 years. With his advice, support and guidance the Dutch Security Cluster has continued to evolve in recent years. On 28 November, the HSD Office Team and RvT came together to thank Kuijken for his commitment.

Supervisory Board members: “During Wim Kuijken’s period as chairman of our Supervisory Board, major steps have been taken in the positioning and strategy of HSD. With his vast knowledge and network, Wim has made a significant contribution for which we are very grateful.”
