Market Development Programmes
Businesses in the HSD Community are offered the opportunity to explore market opportunities and receive support to build up a strong network in the following countries:
UK
United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is an extremely mature security market. Of course Brexit has shuffled the cards a bit with regards as to how, but it remains interesting to do business in the UK. We are in close contact with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in London and Consulates in other parts of the UK and, with the Department of International trade who are situated in The Hague.
Also there is the possibility to soft-land in the United Kingdom with a Soft-landing programme from Global EPIC.
Let us know if you are exploring the UK and we will connect you where we can!

Germany
Germany
Germany is the number one market for Dutch cybersecurity companies venturing abroad. Our neighbours are actively looking beyond their border for cybersecurity expertise, and the Dutch are often a preferred partner. Due to Germany’s land size, the country has a lot of vital infrastructure to protect. As it is also focused on digitalising their infrastructure, securing infrastructure is an important focus in the German cybersecurity sector.
We are in close contact with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Berlin and the Consulates in Munich. We have had several market scans performed and set up a collaboration on how to collectively approach the German market, the Partners In Business (PIB) programme. We also have organised pavilions on several editions of the expo It-sa. We organise a yearly Kingsday event and trade mission to Germany as well.
If you think your organisation is compatible with the German market and customs get in contact with Paul Coumans.
Japan
Japan
Japan is the land of temples, cherry blossoms and hot springs. Intriguing and beautiful. When it comes to security this country is developing quickly. Always looking for new business partners from abroad.
We work closely together with the Dutch Embassy in Tokyo. A PIB program on cybersecurity for the vital infrastructure has led to multiple collaborations and a strong foundation to build further Japanese-Dutch relations and introductions on. The PIB programme has officially finished, but we will continue building the relations, especially on cybersecurity for energy, industry and fintech.
Interested in entering the Asian Market? For more information contact Paul Coumans.
Singapore
Singapore
Singapore is, like the Netherlands, a small country in surface but big in its position. With one of the largest harbour in the world Singapore is a true mainport in Asia. The city state also positions itself as a frontrunner in digitalisation, especially in the area of blockchain and is one of the seats of Interpol.
HSD was part of a PIB programme to Singapore focused on blockchain technologies and coordinated by the Dutch Blockchain coalition. HSD, together with and CFLW, continues to focus on cybercrime in the financial sector and emergent technologies such as cryptocurrency.

India
India
The second most populous country in the world India has its focus on security more and more. Are you thinking about expanding to the Indian market? India is a focus country for HSD and there have been relations between the Netherlands and India on the topic of security for many years now.
We are focusing on Cyber security for India. As India is rapidly changing into the most digital country on earth, we are looking for ways for the Dutch sector to get in on the ground floor. To this end we are organising roundtables and events, as well as liaising between the Netherlands and India.

USA
United States of America
The United States are home to the world’s largest cybersecurity market. Much of the cybersecurity innovation happens in many different places around the US, so there are a lot of opportunities for many different cybersecurity solutions nation-wide. Doing business in the United States is a challenging but highly rewarding experience for your business. And yearly we visit the RSA conference, an important cybersecurity event.
There is also a Partners In Business programme for the USA market. In order to take advantage of the enormous market potential and its influence on the global cybersecurity market. Also there is the possibility to soft-land in the USA with a Soft-landing programme from Global EPIC.

HSD and InnovationQuarter have a partnership with Invest Ottawa and companies can softland in this region with Global EPIC and test the local market. You will have an office desk to work from and people in the ground to guide you.

Taiwan
Taiwan
Taiwan is a highly digitalised and therefore cybersecurity-oriented country. It is highly specialised in hardware production. Due to long-standing ties, Taiwan often looks at the Netherlands for securing their hardware solutions. This poses interesting business opportunities for your business, also when looking to further expand into the Asian market.
With a close collaboration to the local Dutch representatives and the Taipei Representative Office, we spot business opportunities for Dutch cybersecurity businesses. We also organise (digital) trade missions, have market information available, and have Taiwanese delegations coming in that might be interesting contacts for your business.
Also there is the possibility to soft-land in Taiwan with a Soft-landing programme from Global EPIC.
More information? Please contact Paul Coumans (HSD).
Sweden
Sweden
Sweden (and the Nordics as a whole) are an often-overlooked market with a lot of business opportunities! The country has recently upped its cybersecurity efforts as a region-wide initiative to focus more on digital protection. For this reason, the market is now taking off and is posing a lot of opportunities for companies with demonstrated expertise at home.
Sweden is an interesting gateway to the larger Nordic region. Existing ties between the Nordics and the Netherlands make that business collaborations are fostered.
We are currently working on market research to spot opportunities in the area around Sweden. This includes ties with the local Dutch representatives, cybersecurity clusters and economic development agencies provide a large network for your business to tap into.

Global Soft-landing Opportunities
Collaboration on a global scale is crucial, that’s why we have focused on teaming up with other security clusters in the world. By combining our strengths, we have created the unique opportunity for businesses to ‘soft-land’ for a trial period in the market of these partner clusters. Companies and entrepreneurs taking part in the soft-landing programme benefit, free of charge, from access to excellent resources and commercial opportunities, opportunities to be introduced to new partners and talented employees, practical guidance on how to do business in the local market, and so the opportunity to trial new international markets with low-risk. Thanks to these collaborations companies and entrepreneurs have the opportunity to join a Global EPIC softlanding programme or participate with the softlanding programme Ottawa.
Global EPIC soft-landing programme
Global EPIC soft-landing programme
Are you interested in exploring a new market? The Global EPIC Soft-Landing Programme offers companies and entrepreneurs a unique opportunity to ‘soft land’ for a trial period in the market of one of the Global EPIC ecosystems. It provides a low risk entry trial to companies and entrepreneurs entering a new international market, accessing the resources they need to more readily tap into commercial opportunities. The soft-landing programme is operated by the Global Ecosystem of Ecosystems Partnership in Innovation and Cybersecurity (Global EPIC), a worldwide collaboration between security ecosystems to co-create and adopt world-changing solutions to high-impact cybersecurity challenges, both current and emergent. With the soft-landing program, 9 ecosystems in 5 different countries allow the companies and entrepreneurs within their ecosystems to utilise this global network, further strengthening ties between the ecosystems.
Within the soft-landing programme, the ecosystems provide, without cost to the companies and entrepreneurs, connections to their partner network, matchmaking with potential business partners, a meeting space, guidance on recruiting talented employees and market circumstances, incubator facilities and guidance on immigration and legal issues, leading to the possibility of establishing a permanent presence in the foreign market.
The participating ecosystems in the soft-landing program are: bwtech@UMBC (Baltimore, U.S.A.), Carelton GCR (Ottawa, Canada), Centre for Secure Information Technologies - CSIT (Belfast, U.K.), Cyber Wales (Cardiff, U.K), Security Delta (HSD) (The Hague, Netherlands), ITRI (Taipei, Taiwan), Kosciuszko Institute (Krakow, Poland), City of Surrey (Surrey, Canada), UNB (Fredericton, Canada)
For more information on how to ‘soft-land’ in one of these markets, contact Philip Meijer (InnovationQuarter) or Paul Coumans (HSD).
You can also visit the Global EPIC website.
Softlanding Programme Ottawa
Softlanding Programme Ottawa
