On 2 December, the Cyber Resilience Centre Greenport (CW Greenport) held an inspiring knowledge session at Opti-Flor's Experience Center in Monster. The event focused on enhancing cyber awareness within organisations, with a special emphasis on the horticultural sector, while also celebrating CW Greenport's second anniversary.

Practical insights from Evert van Essen
Evert van Essen, CEO of Brooklyn Partners, led an insightful and practical session on developing an effective security awareness culture within organisations. He emphasized the importance of awareness, engagement, and behavioral change within teams to achieve sustainable results. With his experience as a pioneer in Cyber Awareness as a Service, Van Essen demonstrated how organisations can engage their employees in cybersecurity in an accessible and structured way. Brooklyn Partners' unique approach, which centers on a “seriously fun” methodology, was presented as a distinctive feature.

The session also highlighted specific challenges within the horticulture sector, such as:

  • Effectiveness of awareness programs: Companies questioned the value and measurable impact of phishing tests and awareness sessions.
  • Temporary staff: The challenge of quickly informing temporary workers about cybersecurity risks due to their limited onboarding time was highlighted.
  • Management awareness: It was noted that engaging management in cybersecurity initiatives and ensuring it is seen as a priority, remains a common struggle.

The second anniversary of CW Greenport

Finally, a brief reflection on the second anniversary of the Cyber Resilience Centre Greenport was given, during which participants received a fun dilemma game, which challenges them to think about complex dilemmas related to cybersecurity. During this brief reflection, an outlook for 2025 was given, where further collaboration and knowledge sharing will be central. In a short time, this initiative has become a crucial knowledge and collaboration platform for cyber resilience in the horticulture sector. With the insights from today and the collaboration between CW Greenport and partners like Brooklyn Partners, we are taking steps together toward a safer future for the sector.
