As far as known, the NATO summit in The Hague went off without any major disruptive digital attacks or cyber incidents. Something the Netherlands, as host country, can be proud of. Without proper preparation with a focus on security, including digital, this would not have been possible. And the collaborating private parties from the cybersecurity sector made an important contribution to that.

Ahead of and during the summit, 17 progressive private parties came together physically with the NCSC, the police, Europol and the municipality of The Hague at the NATO Summit War Room located at the ESET office in Sliedrecht. From this NATO Summit War Room all parties involved kept an eye on operational digital security at organisations involved with the summit. In this way, they were jointly ready to step in in case of major incidents.

Of course, this is not the first time that private and public parties have acted together. But the scale around the NATO summit is unique. It shows that the private sector is ready to do their bit. Selflessly. But with a common goal to keep the Netherlands safe and secure. Maybe in the near future these collaborations will get a more permanent basis from one physical place in The Hague at a National Cyber Campus/‘House of Cyber’.

The parties involved are: ESET, Northwave, Tesorion, Zolder BV, WithSecure, Schuberg Philis, Fox-IT, mnemonic, Pinewood, ON2IT Cybersecurity, Computest, Hunt & Hackett, Modat, SecureMe2, Sopra Steria, NFIR, InSpark, DataExpert, AKASEC Dutch Police, Europol, Gemeente Den Haag, and the NCSC.
