Police Debate Stresses the Necessity of Cooperation on Programmed Innovation

The Police and the Police Academy increasingly work together with citizens, businesses, and knowledge institutions to develop innovative work methods. Various societal developments demand a new, more adaptable policing approach. And this can only be achieved by cooperating with these partners. During the Police Debate on May 28^th, which included participants from HSD, Twente University, and Kmar, a.o., it was concluded that the organisation, the employees, and the educational programmes of the Police need to adapt to this new trend. Special attention was paid to serious gaming, sensing, artificial intelligence, and data analytics.

Innovation requires certain conditions. Not only a long term vision and programming of research looking at social and technological developments is required but also attention needs to be paid to the question of how a productive innovation climate can be developed within and between (parts of) organisations. The heads of Police have therefore decided to set up a programme to improve the knowledge and mindset towards this end within their organisation. This includes strategies for adding innovation to work processes in a logical manner, improve teamwork, and coaching implementations of new work methods. The outcome also seems to be fully in line with the establishment of an office of the National Police at the HSD Campus and the already existing shared activities between the Police and HSD partners.
