Crisis Communication 
In our increasingly connected world, sharing accurate and reliable information in time during a crisis can be challenging. Social media makes crises rapidly known to a wide public, while the companies and first responders focus on managing the crisis. For instance, a fire at Chemie-Pack in Moerdijk left the public in uncertainty for days as the communicated information was uncoordinated, too little and conflicting. 

This HSD Café will be about the changing context in which crisis communication takes place and the related opportunities and challenges for companies, governments and first responders. We will discuss the most recent developments in the field, such as innovative learning tools for crisis communication experts, we look at some examples in classic and cyber incidents, and we will discuss what effective crisis communication would look like.

Programme
Hester Stubbé, an educational scientist at TNO focusing on innovative learning solutions, will introduce the field of crisis communication and will talk about innovative learning solutions for training purposes. An example of such an innovative learning solution is the online applied serious game ‘De CrisisCommunicatieGame’ developed by TNO, CrisisPlan, IFV and T-Xchange.

Aart van Oosten, an expert in education and training for Crisis Management at Veiligheidsregio Zeeland, will share his personal experience with crisis communication and will analyse a recent case focusing on network cooperation and timing.

Maryse Ducheine, an independent consultant and trainer associated to the Cyber Security Academy based at the HSD Campus, is expert and strategist on Mediacracy,  Cybercrisis Communications and Reputation management. Based on her experience as a Board Advisor and Head of External Communications at KPN she will share her knowledge and views on crisis communication in the case of a Cyber crisis. She will talk about some recent examples and the do’s and don’ts for companies facing such a crisis.

The HSD Cafés are organized for HSD partners on every first and third Thursday of each month (except on public holidays). From cyber to critical infrastructure, 20 sessions will be organized around security topics relevant for companies, the government, and knowledge organizations. In the first hour (16.00-17.00) of each HSD Café, an expert will briefly present a security topic, dilemma, or innovation, followed by an informal discussion. The second part of the HSD Café (17.00-17.45) will consist of drinks and a possibility to network.
