On 22 May, the second edition of ZeroDayZoetermeer took place at the Dutch Innovation Factory. 23 students from The Hague & Leiden Universities of Applied Sciences participated in the hacking event, while around 30 students from other courses took part in an in-depth workshop on ethical hacking. A job and internship market was also part of the programme. The event was opened by alderman Jan Iedema.

Hack the municipality: exposing vulnerabilities

During the hacking event, four teams targetted the Zoetermeer municipality's systems. Within half an hour, the first group already managed to find a vulnerability, and during the afternoon several vulnerabilities came to light.

Workshop on ethical hacking

At the same time as the hacking event, an ethical hacking workshop was held in the Auditorium, given by the DIVD and Eye Security. Around 30 students from various courses - including mbo, hbo and CODAM - learned the basics of ethical hacking. They worked independently on challenges and with each successful challenge, their names appeared on the live scoreboard. It was an accessible and challenging introduction to the world of ethical hacking.

Job and Internship Market: meet your future

At the end of the day, students visited the Job and Internship Market, where 14 organisations were ready to discuss internships, graduation opportunities and jobs. Among others, Eye Security, Goodzo, TKH Security, UNO, Miniclip Netherlands (Gamebasics), DIVD, SynTouch and the AIVD were present. The companies present were enthusiastic about the targeted enquiries from students.

HSD partner UNO, which was made aware of this event by Security Delta (HSD), saw a steady stream of students. Tommy-Lee: ‘It was a busy and inspiring day! We spoke to many students, who became interested in working at UNO. We also pointed out the career platform www.securitytalent.nl to the students. It was great to be part of this event and to be interviewed by Epic Youth.’
