Together with NATO Innovation Hub, and the Dutch Ministry of Defence, Get in the Ring is looking for startups and scale-ups to help NATO ensure health and safety, and aid first responders in pandemic situations.

First responders are at the frontline whenever there is a public health emergency. The recent outbreak of COVID-19 has shown us that we need to quickly provide first responders with the best technology and resources so they can protect the health and safety of people around the world.

The Challenge

This Innovation Challenge is seeking innovative solutions that will enable leaders, and teams of first responders to utilise information systems to help identify false information and mitigate the effects of this information on generating a true common operating picture, predicting behaviours, and supporting decision making in order to protect themselves and civilians.

A great solution should consider one or multiple of the following solution directions:

1) Real-Time situation Dashboard

- Gather, sort, and discriminate information concerning the space of operations.
- Autonomously distinguish between true and false information.
- Predict developments, identify trends and aid the commander in anticipating near-future events.
- Select the optimal course of action.

2) Team and Population Support.

- Actively push and receive real-time information to and from ground teams in a secure way.
- Deliver and collect people and (large) supplies in dense urban areas where the use of landing pads is not possible.

What's in it for you?

  • Collaboration possibility with current and future NATO projects and missions

  • Potential collaboration with the Dutch Ministry of Defence and its industry/innovation networks

  • Potential NATO STANAGs (Standardisation agreement between one or all NATO member states)

  • Access to NATO’s network

  • Visibility through a NATO online media campaign

Application deadline

Deadline to apply for the NATO Innovation Hub Challenge is 5 May, 12:00 CEST.

Since its inception in 2017, the NATO Innovation Challenge series, organised by NATO HQ Supreme Allied Command Transformation (HQ SACT) Innovation Hub, has built and managed worldwide expert communities and implements innovative solutions which help tackle NATO’s priorities. Each iteration of the Challenge is hosted in a different NATO nation. This year, the Challenge is being hosted by the Netherlands, with the Dutch Ministry of Defence.
