A New International Arrival: Qorsa Establishes Its European Base in the Netherlands
Qorsa, a Canadian technology company pioneering quantum-safe cybersecurity and AI solutions, is investing in the Netherlands as it expands its European presence. From its new Dutch base in The Hague, the company will work with customers and partners across Europe to help protect critical systems against current cyber risks and emerging quantum-enabled threats.
Headquartered in Waterloo, Canada, Qorsa develops technology that helps organisations keep sensitive information and essential digital services secure in a post-quantum world. With payments, health records, power grids and government communications relying on encryption that future quantum computers may be able to break, Qorsa responds to the immediate need for organisations to prepare rather than wait for a crisis, given that data can be collected now and decrypted later.
Qorsa’s technology secures organisations against these rapidly evolving threats, making it easier to adopt and update post-quantum cryptography (PQC) as standards and threats change, without shutting down critical systems. The company also develops explainable AI; artificial intelligence that can show how it reached a conclusion, so its recommendations can be traced, checked and trusted. Applied to security, this helps teams spot potential attacks and understand what action to take.
“Encryption quietly protects almost everything we trust, and the quantum era will test every bit of it.” – Liam Watson, President at Qorsa Europe
Tapping into the cybersecurity and quantum ecosystems
Qorsa selected the Netherlands for its European operation due to its combination of world-leading advanced quantum ecosystem and cybersecurity communities, coupled with direct links to European markets and a pragmatic business environment.
The Hague particularly stood out for its concentration of cybersecurity expertise, potential partners and international organisations, providing a home to a strong security community, including Security Delta (HSD). From the region, Qorsa also has access to leading technical university TU Delft and the QDNL, the Dutch quantum ecosystem, offering world-class quantum and cyber research on its doorstep.
“We came to The Hague to help Europe get ahead of the quantum shift rather than scramble to catch up with it, and there’s no better place to do that than a city built around security and international cooperation.” – Terry Popowich, CEO at Qorsa
Qorsa plans to expand its European presence through partnerships, pilot projects and recruitment. With 75 employees globally, the company is building its Dutch team and expects to recruit field and sales engineers alongside go-to-market professionals as its European activities grow.
Strengthening the Netherlands’ digital resilience
By establishing in the Netherlands, Qorsa joins a growing community of quantum and cybersecurity innovators while bringing specialised expertise in protecting against emerging quantum-related threats. Its capabilities complement the Netherlands’ strengths in advanced technology and cybersecurity, helping address the challenges of a rapidly evolving digital landscape. In doing so, Qorsa can contribute to strengthening the country’s digital resilience and supporting a secure, future-ready digital economy.
Navigating a new market
The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) approached Qorsa in Canada and visited its Waterloo offices to get to know the business first-hand. Together with InnovationQuarter and Security Delta, NFIA helped give the company a soft landing by connecting it with the right people, resources and opportunities in the Dutch cybersecurity ecosystem, and continues to support the team as it expands in the Netherlands.
