The nation’s tech sector is worth an estimated £8.5bn to the Welsh economy and it continues to grow. Over 40,000 people are actively employed within the Digital Economy in Wales with main hubs focused around Cardiff and Newport in the south, Swansea in the west and Wrexham in the north.
Our thriving cyber ecosystem with its growing supply chain combined with our entrepreneurial universities provides a firm foundation for Cyber companies to thrive. A vibrant innovation community allows start-ups, investors and large corporations to meet and share ideas. Where the market goes, the supporting technology industry follows. Wales is home to over 3,000 homegrown and multinational technology operations, including some of the biggest tech companies, for instance BT, Thales, Qinetiq, Airbus Defence & Space and General Dynamics.
Cyber Wales and HSD are partners within the Global Ecosystem of Ecosystems Partnership in Innovation and Cybersecurity (Global EPIC). This initiative has been founded to enable the future securely through the development and sharing of new knowledge in the field of cyber security – leading to societal, economic and technological impact in a timely fashion. It will do this by building a global community of innovation ecosystems who will collaborate on projects and share expertise through an expanding network of diverse organizations. This initiative will see 14 global ecosystems co-creating and adopting world-changing solutions to high-impact cybersecurity challenges, both current and emergent. The ecosystems involved come from over 10 different countries spanning three continents, reflecting the truly global nature of the partnership.
