The Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI), a The Hague Security Delta partner, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), an agency of the United States Department of Commerce, recently signed an agreement in order to advance technologies, methods, practices and standards in the forensic field. The two organisations agreed to collaborate on: Research and development; Development of forensic standards; Education and training; Forensic governance.

The NFI and NIST will improve the accuracy and reliability of forensic science in both the US and the Netherlands by sharing expertise and research findings, as well as aligning their respective responsibilities to the forensic science community regarding calibration methods, reference standards, state-of-the-art measurement techniques and performance and procedural criteria.

The NFI is considered to be one of the leading global institutions when it comes to finding new methods and tools that can be applied to forensics.
