New NWO 'Perspectief' Funding Round to Open this Summer

The call for proposals for the new round of the Perspectief funding instrument is expected to open in July. At that time, researchers from universities, universities of applied sciences and applied research organisations (TO2 institutes), companies and civil-society organisations that would like to participate in consortia devoted to technological innovation may submit proposals once again. Each research project that is awarded funding will be allocated between €2 and €5 million euros.

About Perspectief

Funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Perspectief is a NWO programme. The programme pushes academics to collaborate closely with businesses and civil society organisations on research projects centred around technological innovation that improve society and generate revenue for the Netherlands. The projects' primary goals are to address societal issues and produce important technologies, which will help the ministry fulfil its Mission-Driven Top Sectors and Innovation Policy.

Researchers have the chance to start a large-scale research initiative and create or expand a multidisciplinary partnership using Perspectief. The research projects must specifically centre on the digitalisation and Key Enabling Technologies, as well as the application of technological advancements within the framework of the Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs) of the five social issues. Within these constraints, researchers are free to refine their suggestion.

Companies, civil society organisations and researchers submit a research proposal for Perspectief together. Through the promotion of close and long-term cooperation between researchers from many disciplines and partners in civil society, the initiative enhances the possibility of using the knowledge produced. For the businesses engaged, this means more prospects for growth and a greater potential for social impact.

The funds allotted to each research project will range from €2 to €5 million euros. The maximum duration of a project is six years.
