Cyber Security Companies Offer Their Expertise to Secure the Dutch Elections Free of Charge
Initiated by HSD Partners Deloitte, KPN and DINL (Foundation for Digital Infrastructure), several Cyber Security companies would like to offer their expertise and manpower for free to National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) of the Dutch government for the next few months. This way they want to contribute to a secure running of the Dutch general election on 15 March 2017. The companies are concerned about the statements made by the US security services about possible foreign influence of electoral processes in Europe.
'The risks are considerable and there is every reason to increase the surveillance of the [cyber] dikes’, according to Michiel Steltman, Director of DINL.
The reaction of NCSC - which advises political parties about their digital security during the elections - to the offer is positive: 'We welcome the involvement of these companies. At this moment we are identifying the needs of the political parties. They will eventually decide themselves if they will use the assistance of the cyber security companies.'
