EIT Digital calls companies, universities, research institutions, and other organisations to submit proposals that contribute to a strong digital Europe. There can be chosen between two proposal subjects: "Is launching digital tech startups within the Innovation Factory" or "providing entrepreneurial digital tech education programmes for the EIT Digital entrepreneurial Academy". The chosen subjects are based on the EIT Digital Strategic Innovation Agenda 2020-2022, in which EIT Digital has designated five strategic focus areas to work on for a strong digital Europe. These areas are: Digital Cities, Digital Industry, Digital Finance, Digital Tech, and Digital Wellbeing.

Proposals can be submitted from 5 March until 7 May 2020. The selection will be finalised by the end of June 2020 and approved activities are expected to start on January 1, 2021

The EIT Digital Innovation Factory supports pan European entrepreneurial teams to launch deep-tech startups and new products, with the goal of enhancing the global impact of Europe’s digital industry, boosting sustainable economic growth and improving citizens’ quality of life. With pre-incubation support, selected activities will be embedded in the European ecosystem and receive a financial co-investment to package their technology, sign up customers and attract investors.

Willem Jonker, EIT Digital CEO: “Digital deep tech will continue to impact all aspects of our society. To strengthen Europe’s position in the digital world, the EIT Digital ecosystem will increase its delivery of disruptive innovations, launch and scale more ventures, and deliver even more of the entrepreneurial tech talents the market is longing for.”

“Over the years, the proposals made by EIT Digital’s more than 190 Industry partners, as well as 70 Research and Academia partners have resulted in more than 430 products launched on the market, more than 180 deep-tech startups created, in over 2,300 students with skills to innovate and become entrepreneurs, and over 200 PhD thesis defined with the Industry.”
