Who are these terrorists making terrorist attacks in Europe? What policy does the Dutch Government have to prevent this? And what impact does an attack have on the society? In the Masterclass Terrorism 2018, a college series of three lectures at the The Hague faculty of the University of Leiden, Edwin Bakker and Jeanine de Roy van Zuijdewijn look with an educational perspective at these current questions. Which threats are there in 2018?

College 1: Terrorism in the year 2018
This first college picks up the question how jihad terrorism developed itself in the past 15 years in the West. Who are these homegrown terrorist and Syria-warriors? And in which networks can they be found?

College 2: Dutch Policy
The contra terrorism policy of the Dutch Government is central topic of the second lecture. Is it luck or a coincidence that we haven’t had current attacks in our country?

College 3: Impact Terrorism
The last lecture will be about the impact of attacks. What is the importancy of crisis management? And what can we learn from the reactions of the attacks in Nice, Paris, London and Barcelona?

Edwin Bakker is professor Terrorism and Contra terrorism at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs of the University of  Leiden. Jeanine de Roy van Zuijdewijn is researcher at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs of the University of  Leiden.
