At the Dutch Innovation Factory, a unique opportunity is currently taking shape: until the summer break, the facility is hosting a scale model of the Botlek Bridge, made available by Siemens. This collaboration marks an important step in strengthening the partnership between Siemens and The Hague University of Applied Sciences, while creating valuable hands-on learning opportunities for students.

The Botlek Bridge model provides a tangible and realistic environment in which students and researchers can explore the intersection of physical infrastructure and cybersecurity. By working with a real-life representation of critical infrastructure, participants gain insights into the vulnerabilities, risks and protective measures associated with modern, digitally connected systems. Importantly, this initiative also opens the door for vocational (MBO) students to get involved.

It offers them the chance to engage with practical, technology-driven challenges in areas such as engineering, ICT and cybersecurity. This type of cross-level collaboration helps bridge the gap between education and industry, preparing students for the increasingly complex demands of the digital and industrial landscape.

Strengthening collaboration between education and industry

The collaboration highlights how organisations such as CIV Smart Technology, The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Siemens are successfully joining forces in innovative projects. By combining expertise from education, research and industry, they are creating an ecosystem where knowledge sharing, experimentation and real-world application go hand in hand.

As the project continues in the coming months, it stands as a strong example of how partnerships can accelerate innovation, enhance education and contribute to a more secure and resilient technological future.
