The Europol Innovation Lab organised its inaugural AI & Policing Conference 'AI by Law Enforcement for Law Enforcement (AI(LE)²)' in May at the HSD Campus. This specialised, in-person event, brought together over 50 AI experts from European Law Enforcement Agencies and Europol to focus on the practical applications of AI in policing.

The conference invited professionals with proven experience in applying AI to law enforcement, to cover a wide range of topics including computer vision, audio processing, NLP/LLMs, AI pipelines and generative AI.

Over the course of the conference, practitioners shared best practices, learned from operational cases, and discussed practical applications of AI that can support and advance investigations. Beyond demonstrating the practical implementation of AI in law enforcement, the conference fostered a collaborative environment where practitioners could exchange knowledge and benefit from each other’s expertise.

Bringing together AI practitioners allowed them to learn about work being carried out in different countries and to build a network of law enforcement AI experts.

The feedback from participants overwhelmingly indicated a desire for a future edition of the event.
