Integrated Foreign and Security Strategy of the Netherlands 2018 - 2022 Presented

On 20 March, the Dutch kabinet presented the 'Integrated Foreign and Security Strategy 2018-2022: Worldwide for a more secure Netherlands'. According to the Dutch minister Blok of Foreign Affaires, security is the backbone of Dutch foreign policy. What happens in foreign countries can directly affect the safety in the Netherlands. The government therefore opts for a concrete, international approach to the security of the Netherlands. The new security strategy focuses on three pillars: prevention, defence and reinforcement. 

Especially in 'digital resilience' the Netherlands lags behind, writes Blok. That is why his department is fully committed to 'cyber diplomacy'. Diplomats are being trained to become alert to cyber threats and to detect and neutralise them in time. On 19 and 20 March, for example 20 cyber diplomates participated in a knowledge session organised by the Cyber Security Academy at the HSD Campus.
