Cyber Crime Costs The Netherlands 8.8 Billion Euros Per Year
Cyber crime costs the Dutch economy some 8.8 billion euros per year, around 1.5% of its GNP, according to a new study from the American Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). The report was commissioned by security firm McAfee, a part of Intel Security. Worldwide, the damage caused by cybercrime is estimated at 327 billion euros. Furthermore it threatens to cause 150,000 job losses in the EU. ‘The number one target is intellectual property theft’, says Wim van Campen, vice president of Northern and Eastern Europe for McAfee.
