Fee-free public events, like the Nijmeegse Vierdaagse, the Summer Carnival in Rotterdam and the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam, typically attract twenty thousand up to two million visitors. How can public and private partners effectively cooperate to manage such large crowds? How can the safety and security of the visitors of public events be guaranteed?

In this HSD Cafe we will look at innovative ways of cooperation between triple helix partners and innovative technologies that are deployed to support this cooperation in the field of event safety and security.

Information sharing between public and private stakeholders before and during events has proven to be very difficult. How can this cooperation be improved? What are the best practices and lessons learned? And how do innovative technologies and open source data already contribute to more information sharing and better incident response?

We have invited the following speakers:
Frans Copini, an innovation and change management expert, works for the National Dutch Police as a project leader. He is responsible for the design of a four year period program plan for developing sensor capabilities for the police.

Peter de Bruijn is Board Member and Director of Future Events, an innovation platform consisting of triple helix partners that aims to organize innovation during events by using events as a living lab for testing new applications and forms of public-private cooperation.

Otto Vroegop is co-founder and managing director at iCOPP, a netcentric video and sensor sharing management system for triple helix parties.

Richard Stronkman is the founder of CrowdSense and co-founder of the Twitcident Platform. Both platforms filter social media for early warning and incident management.

This café is sponsored by Future Events, iCOPP and CrowdSense.

About the HSD Café
The HSD Cafés are organised for HSD partners on every first and third Thursday of each month (except on public holidays). From cyber security, drones to critical infrastructure, 20 sessions will be organised around security topics relevant for businesses, governments, and knowledge institutions. In the first hour (16.00-17.00) of each HSD Café, experts will briefly present a security topic, dilemma, or innovation, followed by an informal discussion. The second part of the HSD Café (17.00-17.45) will consist of drinks and a possibility to network.

The HSD Cafés provide an excellent opportunity to meet (potential) business partners, bring along your contacts, expand your knowledge, and shape the debate on key security issues of the future. Tell us what you think. Let your voice count, expand your network, and join the debate!
