On 3 November, Deloitte, KPN and HSD organised a child debate on online security at the HSD Campus. The debate was part of the Alert Online Campaign and is an example of how more attention for cyber security can be created in education programmes, which plays an important role in the report of the Cyber Security Council which was released on the 1st of November.

Debate
Four school classes with children in the age group 9-11 years,  debate about various topics such as online fraud, cyber bullying, fake profiles on social networks and learning programming. The award for the winning team was a big trophy, but the experience is worth more: children were taught to express opinions, to feel sympathy for other opinions and most important, the children accessed knowledge about cyber security and became more aware of online threats.

Joris den Bruinen (Deputy Director of HSD) stated that the youths are the talents of the future. “For this reason, it is important to make children aware of the possibilities, but also about the risks of the internet at a young age. Human behavior is crucial and therefore it is never to early to educate about cyber security.”
