AKASEC Joins Security Delta (HSD) as New Premium Partner

AKASEC recently joined Security Delta (HSD) as a Premium Partner! AKASEC equips organisations against advanced digital threats by carrying out Black and Red Team exercises that simulate real-world cyber risks. The AKASEC team has a background within the Dutch Intelligence and Security Services and specialises primarily in Living off the Land techniques to minimise the chance of detection, allowing the hackers to ‘slip’ through IT infrastructure unnoticed in search of an organisation’s crown jewels.

AKASEC was founded in 2024 by Jan Willem Veldhuis and Tom Wolters, two hackers with extensive experience in high-level offensive operations within the Dutch government. Rather than approaching cybersecurity from a traditional consultancy perspective, relying on checklists and standard assessments, they operate from the mindset of advanced adversaries. Their background allows them to understand in detail how nation-state actors think, move, and gain access. At the core of AKASEC is a clear mission: to demonstrate to organisations what is truly possible before someone else does. In their view, only those who understand how an attacker operates can defend at the highest level.

Their work reflects this philosophy. AKASEC specialises in controlled, methodical, and undetected intrusion testing across systems, physical environments, and human targets. A key focus is Living off the Land: using what is already present within an organisation’s infrastructure to avoid detection. Instead of relying on loud or easily identifiable tools, they emulate the techniques used by advanced persistent threat (APT) groups and state-sponsored actors.

A significant part of their engagements involves validating whether existing security operations centers (SOCs), whether in-house or outsourced, actually perform as intended. This goes beyond theoretical testing. AKASEC assesses whether defenses hold up under real-world conditions by testing custom SOC detection use cases or by deliberately operating beneath the radar to simulate a genuine adversary.

Building beyond security testing

Beyond offensive operations, AKASEC also distinguishes itself through strong engineering capabilities. With a background in software development, the team builds its own tooling and infrastructure. This includes custom firmware for MiFi routers, proprietary anonymous VPN infrastructure, and a fully self-developed mobile device management platform, Delta MDM (deltamdm.com), which enables remote control, locking, or wiping of mobile devices.

In addition, AKASEC has developed ZT-ONE (zt-one.com), an encrypted mobile communication platform built on GrapheneOS. It includes secure “burner” devices designed for high-risk scenarios, such as international travel where operational security is critical. This combination of offensive expertise and in-house engineering allows AKASEC to operate with full control over its tooling and infrastructure.

The connection with Security Delta (HSD) came naturally, as AKASEC is based at the HSD Campus in The Hague. The decision to become a Premium Partner, however, was deliberate. HSD provides direct access to organisations operating in government, critical infrastructure, and the financial sector, exactly the environments where security is most critical and where AKASEC can add the most value.

Within the HSD ecosystem, AKASEC sees value not only in access to potential clients but also in credibility and collaboration. A realistic view on today’s threat landscape

Operating at the highest levels of Dutch government experience, the team translates real-world offensive knowledge into practical simulations. Their work helps organisations prepare for threats that often fall outside conventional testing scenarios. The challenges they observe in the security landscape reflect this reality: attackers continuously evolve, making one-time assessments insufficient.

Organisations that rely on annual penetration tests often underestimate how quickly threat actors adapt. In addition, AKASEC sees recurring weaknesses in Microsoft 365 environments, including misconfigured permissions, insufficient logging, and limited security awareness. Insider threats remain another underestimated risk, particularly in sectors where sensitive information has high strategic or financial value.

Clients and collaboration focus

AKASEC works across a range of high-stakes sectors, including government, education, critical infrastructure such as ports, and financial institutions. For more grown organisations, they also perform advanced assessments under the ART framework. These range from targeted security reviews to complex black-team operations that emulate specific threat actors.

AKASEC is particularly focused on organisations that understand security is not optional and that operate environments where risk is real, especially those with on-premise systems, sensitive data, or regulatory constraints that make cloud-only solutions insufficient.

Growth through depth, not scale

Looking ahead, AKASEC is focused on growing in depth rather than scale. The team currently consists of seven specialists and is selectively expanding with one or two additional highly technical professionals capable of both offensive security and software development. The ability to build custom tools is becoming increasingly important as demand for tailored security solutions grows and standard products fall short in complex environments.

Their ambition is to further establish AKASEC as a leading Dutch specialist in high-end offensive security work. This includes expanding Advanced Red Team (ART) engagements, continuing the development of proprietary tooling, and scaling platforms such as ZT-ONE and Delta MDM. At the same time, the company remains intentionally small and independent, ensuring that every engagement receives full focus and technical depth.
