We would like to invite you to our next HSD Café on Thursday 19 March, on Securing National Events: Innovation and Lessons Learned. Immediately after this HSD Café deputy mayor Ingrid van Engelshoven will also announce a new investment by InnovationQuarter, the first within the top sector Safety & Security.

In follow up of our HSD Café on event safety and security of January this year, this HSD Café will focus on how we can embed lessons learned from past national security events. On behalf of the city of the Hague, HSD has conducted  a research on what we can learn from one of the biggest events the Netherlands has ever hosted: the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) 2014 in The Hague. Public, private and international organisations prepared years in advance to accommodate dozens of global leaders and thousands of delegation leaders and journalists in the city of The Hague. Not only has this event confirmed the necessity of coordinated collaboration and smooth communication, it has also launched several groundbreaking innovations in the field of security. Events of this massive scale provide the opportunity to reassess its organisation in order to determine areas of success and room for improvement. What have we learned from the Nuclear Security Summit 2014 with respect to public-private collaboration? Which innovations have been developed through this event and how can they contribute to future events? And specifically: how can we increase our “learning ability” and embed these lessons in the organisation of future large-scale events? These matters will be open for discussion during this HSD Café.

The HSD Café is set up as follows:
from 16:00 until 16:20, three speakers will briefly introduce the topic of this HSD Café:

• Marije Meines, Senior Advisor at Twynstra Gudde, will discuss the most significant lessons learned from the Nuclear Security Summit 2014.
• Dr. Mark Dechesne, Associate Professor Leiden University, Campus the Hague, will explain the role of innovation in the preparation and execution of the Nuclear Security Summit 2014.
• Cent van Vliet, from  Honderd ProCent, will focus on specific business opportunities.

The presentations will be followed by a discussion during which questions can be answered. From 17:00 onwards there will be drinks and networking opportunities.

Deputy Mayor to announce investment
At 17:15, during drinks, Deputy Mayor of the Hague, Ingrid van Engelshoven, will announce a new investment of InnovationQuarter. Through this investment fund, InnovationQuarter offers promising innovative startups and young technology companies with growth plans in West Holland venture capital to bring innovations to market. About the HSD Café
The HSD Cafés are organised for HSD partners on every first and third Thursday of each month (except on public holidays). From cyber security, drones to critical infrastructure, 20 sessions will be organised around security topics relevant for businesses, governments, and knowledge institutions. In the first hour of each HSD Café, experts will briefly present a security topic, dilemma, or innovation, followed by an informal discussion.

The second part of the HSD Café will consist of drinks and a possibility to network. The HSD Cafés provide an excellent opportunity to meet (potential) business partners, bring along your contacts, expand your knowledge, and shape the debate on key security issues of the future. Tell us what you think. Let your voice count, expand your network, and join the debate!

Parking
Unfortunately there is no parking available underneath the HSD Campus. From 14.00h. you can park for free in the neighbourhood.
