Mayor of The Hague Announces Winners Cyber Flare Award in The Hague South West
Cybersecurity Week in The Hague isn't just for cybersecurity professionals. It’s also about making the residents and businesses in the city more cyber-resilient. To do so, the city organised a Cyber Crisis Training for SMEs and in addition a city-wide campaign was launched to raise awareness. On 4 October, the city wrapped up the week with the Cyber Flare Award, presented by the Mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen. This award recognises two individuals who have gone above and beyond to strengthen cybersecurity for residents and businesses.
At shopping centre Leyenburg in The Hague South-West, the mayor congratulated Jurriaan Raaijmakers, digital district ambassador, and Malek Kariebo, digital district officer in The Hague South-West, for their outstanding contributions.
Visiting Schools, Workshops, Gaming & Livestreaming
Malek is honoured to have received this first Cyber Flare Award. "I'm just doing my job but nevertheless, I still think it's quite an honour." Malek teaches in schools on topics such as cyberbullying, sextortion, grooming and money mules. He also conducts workshops for parents to recognise signs of digital crime and gives advice to network partners. Furthermore, Malek games online weekly with different ages and broadcasts livestreams where people can ask questions to the police. While livestreaming and gaming, Malek also shows prevention videos and discusses what new laws and regulations mean for the digital world.
Mayor Van Zanen: "Criminals are constantly coming up with new ways to intimidate people and organisations online and take money or information. Police officer Malek and neighbourhood ambassador Jurriaan, who work hard to make citizens and businesses more resilient, are therefore worth their weight in gold"
