The Hague India Cyber Security Summer School

The first edition of the 'The Hague India Cyber Security Summer School' will take place July 9 - July 13 2018. Students will be able to participate either in The Hague (the Netherlands) or in Hyderabad (India). The summer school is a five-day programme during which Master's students and PhD candidates will extensively learn about various issues related to cyber security, such as the latest developments and cutting edge contemporary cyber security technologies. For the 2018 edition of the summer school, significant organisations such as NATO C&I Agency (NCIA), JNTU Hyderabad, the NALSAR University of Law and Certified Secure will provide insiders' perspectives and lectures. 

​Cyber security is a major global challenge, among others because of the growing number of cyber attacks and incidents which threaten individuals, businesses and states. Besides being a global challenge, however, cyber security is also a particularly pertinent topic for Indian society. To begin with, the Indian government is currently trying to demonetize India and turn it into a cashless society, boosting digital money. Besides this, digital worlds are being created around Indian citizens, starting with the in 2009 implemented biometric ID system Aadhaar, which has gained over 1 billion users, making it one of the largest and most successful IT projects ever. Furthermore, Indian Prime Minister Modi wants to provide internet access to the millions of Indians who do not possess this access yet. These are just some examples, but as is clear, India is turning into a digital society, for which cyber security will be extremely relevant.

The summer school also takes place against the background of the increased cooperation between the Municipality of The Hague and India. Over the last few years, The Hague has signed Memoranda of Understanding with the Indian states of Karnataka and Telanga. One of the goals of the Memoranda has been to develop cooperation and exchange of knowledge in the cyber domain. The programme of the The Hague India Cyber Security Summer School is an excellent starting point for this.

The Hague India Cyber Security Summer School is an initiative by IIIT Hyderabad, The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies, E2Labs, SkillCube,  KrypC, The Hague University of Applied Sciences and the Municipality of The Hague.
